When Mister & Misses Jack Ritchie bought an old home in the suburb of California, they become exited and want to renovate and reconstruct it in their own style and according to their own wish. They have so many ideas for their new home. It was priority for them to enlarge the congested up stairs bath room and have a small shower room downstairs.

They also want to have an extension on the ground floor which would produce a space for a little garden on the left side of the home. They think that there will be a space for a large kitchen. Keeping these improvements in mind they consider that there will be so many kinds of repairing. Everything was old and near to fall on the ground, like plumbing, wiring and central heating system. The conditions of the walls was worst, they have to be damp-proofed and re-plastered. The aluminum windows were hanging like dog’s ear, so the have to be repaired.

The couple has a tight budget so want to take it as a challenge and finish it at once. They call a builder, who gave new ideas, like kitchen blends in perfectly with its Edwardian surroundings. The sensible touches include a practical island unit and paneled splash backs. The large dining table was also a dynamic item, which will produce an entertainment for the invited guests. After the installation of French windows as a part of new extension, in summer party guests can go into the garden outside.

The work was carried out in four months and in this period the couple stayed in their friends’ home. Then they planned to paint the home in elegant & attractive colors. They give their vote for pale natural shades of cream and stone, for most of the walls. This practice make to feel the space has increased. Mrs. Jack laid down the same carpet throughout the house, instead of spreading different kinds of carpets in every room. By this practice she controlled the budget.

She believes that a proper choice for window curtains can make or break a room. The walls of the house were plain without any pattern on it, so she decided to have colorful curtains over the windows to give a wonderful impact in each room.

It took a lot of time to design and color it the way they wanted to have it. Now they are living in their new house for a year. They understand that they made the right decision by completing all the renovation work done in one go.

Mrs. Jack says that apart from consuming the weekends mess around the garden, we just don’t have the time for jobs around the house. When we are not working we take leisure & relax rather than decorating. I think that we achieved the target and have a perfect house for big parties.
